(Vanity Fair)Shailene Woodley made the cover of this year's "Next Wave of Hollywood" issue for Vanity Fair, a seemingly safe person to bet on in the future success department. But that's what the magazine thought of the ladies who made that same cover 11 years ago. Judging by the career trajectories of the Class of 2003, it's clear why VF went with just one person to lead the 2014 issue. Let's revisit that 2003 cover and see what's become of the "young Hollywood" of yesteryear.
Amanda Bynes
Where she was in 2003: Coming off two successful Nickelodeon sketch shows (All That, The Amanda Show) and moving into leading roles on the big screen (Big Fat Liar, What a Girl Wants).
Highlight since: Easy A is arguably the most popular movie on her IMDb page. Not up for debate is the fact that it was her last role in a major production. That was four years ago.
Lowlight since: What started as a string of child star cliches, court appearances, and "wow, isn't she weird" behavior over the last two years has turned into a legitimate mental breakdown so depressing it's too serious to joke about. Get well soon, Amanda.
The Olsen Twins
Where they were in 2003: Heading a multimedia empire that made them (collectively) the 11th richest women in the entertainment industry.
Highlight since: Acting wasn't really on the twins' to-do list in the '00s. Instead, they launched multiple clothing lines and become best-selling authors, further adding to their fortunes.
Lowlight(?) since: The Olsens have been surprisingly solid given how early they got famous. But Mary Kate (28) has beendating Olivier Sarkozy (45) for two years now and that seems kiiiinda weird. It looks like this:
Mandy Moore
Where she was in 2003: Making every girl I knew cry by dying in A Walk to Remember.
Highlight since: While Moore never reached the musical heights of "Candy," she's kept the acting thing going with guest roles in everything from Scrubs to Grey's Anatomy to Entourage.
Lowlight since: Far be it from me to judge afilm with a title like Swinging with the Finkels, but Rotten Tomatoes critics gave it a 0%, while the typically more forgiving crowd of users could only muster a rating of 20% for the film. 
Hilary Duff
Where she was in 2003: Riding high as the lead character on Disney Channel's Lizzy McGuireand transitioning into film with Cheaper by the Dozen and A Cinderella Story.
Highlight since: She married a hockey player, launched a clothing/fragrance line, wrote a trilogy of books, had a baby, did a six-episode run on Gossip Girl, and is about to drop an album.
Lowlight since: Hilary and sister Haylie put their friendly(?) competition aside to join forces onMaterial Girls in 2006. It did not turn out well. The film was universally panned and barely made its budget back at the box office.
Alexis Bledel
Where she was in 2003: Right in the middle of Gilmore Girls' eight-year run.
Highlight since: She got to share some jeans with Blake Lively in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies, had a part in the first Sin City, and a guest role in Mad Men where she met her future husband Vincent Kartheiser (aka Pete Campbell).
Lowlight since: Unfortunately, Bledel's first big shot at top-billed leading lady status was a flop with 2009's Post Grad, which didn't even break even at the box office and hardly generated the kind of buzz Gilmore Girls did.
Evan Rachel Wood
Where she was in 2003: Coming off a breakthrough performance in Thirteen that netted her a Golden Globe nomination.
Highlight since: Wood's probably had the best career run of all the ladies in the VF Class of 2003, appearing in things like True Blood, Ides of March, Across the Universe, The Wrestler, and getting her second Globe nom for Mildred Pierce.
Lowlight since: Dating Marilyn Manson has to be up there.
Raven Symone
Where she was in 2003: Parlaying her breakout roles in Disney Channel movies (The Cheetah Girls, Kim Possible) into her own series.
Highlight since: A six-year run as the lead on That's So Raven is something to applaud, but Symone's real legacy will likely be the work she does as an outspoken advocate for the LGBT community.
Lowlight since: The Fat Albert movie was an abomination on all fronts and should probably be expunged from the resumes of everyone involved.
Lindsay Lohan
Where she was in 2003: On the promotional tour for Freaky Friday and about to breakout in a big way with Mean Girls the following year.
Highlight since: Even though Mean Girls premiered less than nine months after the Vanity Fair cover, it's still the best, most well-known thing Lohan's done (professionally anyway).
Lowlight since: We all know this one's easy, and best summed up by one collection of pictures.
