Easy Outfit Upgrade: Wear a Necklace Backwards

(Art by Tanya Leigh Washington)If you have an eye for detail and a penchant for iconic fashion films, you'd know that Aubrey Hepburn's character in Breakfast at Tiffany's, Holly Golightly, wore her pearls backwards. Take a look at the 1961 film and you'll notice how they drape down her back, perfectly in line with the scooped neck of her dress designed by Hubert de Givenchy.

Even Princess Diana was a fan of the edgy jewelry look: The Princess of Wales wore a long knotted string of pearls to accentuate her backless dress at the London premiere of Back to The Future in 1985. Wearing a necklace backwards may not be a new trend, but it's definitely a clever one to take note of.

Last week, Anne Hathaway reminded us about this innovative style. When we started to dig in the archives, we remembered that she also wore a "backlace" to the 2013 Oscars, where she won Best Supporting Actress for Les Misérables.
